Mō te tūranga | About the role

Visionwest Kahukura Financial Mentors service is an intensive service aimed at helping clients, families and whānau with multiple and complex needs experiencing (or at risk of experiencing) extreme financial hardship. It is an holistic approach to building financial resilience that acknowledges financial issues are not in isolation of an individual’s wider social needs. The aim is to provide financial intervention, as well as assist people to navigate other services such as health and/or social services. Where specialist support is needed, they will navigate and connect our clients, families and whānau with other services in the community. 

Mōu ake | About you

The ideal candidate will have a learning attitude, be proactive and able to manage confidential information appropriately. Flexibility and adaptability will also be important for this role

Skills and attributes we are looking for include:

  • At least 2 years experience in front-facing roles supporting whanau with complex needs, including Mental Health and Addictions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willing to work within the community and conduct home visits when required. 
  • Ability to do assessment and intervention planning with goals for change that build on the strengths and resilience of clients, families and n.
  • Experience in maintaining detailed case notes that document client progress, interventions, and outcomes in a clear and organised manner. 
  • Experience in supporting and guiding a journey of financial capability. 
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.  
  • Advocacy and negotiation skills with creditors, Work and Income NZ and other government agencies. 
  • An understanding of community resources for client referrals. 
  • Knowledge of Te Ao Māori and Pasifika cultures. 
  • Ability in Debt Management and Insolvency.
